The Golden Severum (Heros cf. efasciatus) is an attractive and lively cichlid which draws attention to it in any aquarium for its interactive behavior and special appearance. It maintains a golden coloration as a full grown adult, whereas the young juvenile fish are a solid pale shade which slowly begins to turn more yellow with a fine spotted pattern on the head as the fish matures, given that healthy conditions and high quality foods are provided.

The Severum does well with similar varieties of cichlids and requires hiding spaces in its aquarium, it can also accept hardier large plants such as Echinidorus and Vallisneria if firmly rooted.

The fish can grow up to 20cm+ in size and may not be suitable to keep with very small species and dwarf shrimps. It accepts most high quality cichlid food in dry and frozen forms and should provided a varied diet for it to reach its optimum size and coloration (our high quality STENDKER food selection is a suitable option for this South American cichlid).

On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as "Large" or "Adult".
