Apistogramma macmasteri 'Gold' is a special color strain of this species which displays a white/gold body base and adult males showing fiery red markings on the shoulders and fins.

Robust-looking with an elongated oval shape body, the Apistogramma macmasteri has its dorsal fins with serrated edges and tail fin semi-circle. It is incredibly rewarding to keep this species for its entertaining qualities and unique characteristics. 

Apistogramma macmasteri is quite peaceful and accepting of other fishes but requires hiding spaces such as rocks, wood, and plants to provide the fish its own space when needed.

Feeds on small invertebrates and are primarily carnivorous but live frozen food such as artemia, daphnia and bloodwoorms should be offered for it in the aquarium regularly although most specimens will also learn to accept dried alternatives with pelleted products generally preferred to flake.
